Rink update – 2019-01-09 #2

The puddle rink has been shoveled/scraped and can be used for skating as of 5:30pm today. If any volunteers or hockey players want to scrape the hockey rink, it should be usable too.

Edit @ 10pm: both rink surfaces have been shoveled. The temperature is dropping. The rink will continue to be open for at least the next week if the current 7-day forecast holds true.

Please remember to shovel the ice if you use it. Leaving snow and ice chips on the surface creates more work for the next skaters and for the maintenance team. The less work we create for the maintenance team, the more consistently and longer we can keep the rinks open.

Rink update – 2019-01-08

The weather is a bit better than was forecast, and some lovely individuals and families have worked hard today to shovel the rink. It is currently in good shape to skate. If anyone wants to skate this evening, feel free to do so. Just make sure to help shovel if there is any shoveling left to do, and shovel again when you are finished skating. Thank you!

Kingsmere Rink update – 2019-01-07

The rink is in amazing shape!  Regular rink supervision hours are in effect today and tomorrow.

Unfortunately, Tuesday/tomorrow comes with a forecast of +6C during the day and +1C overnight (Tuesday to Wednesday overnight). The rink will be closed Tuesday/tomorrow unless the weather is significantly colder than the forecast, and will likely not open again for skating until Thursday.

Volunteers are needed on Wednesday evening to shovel forecasted snow off the ice rink surfaces. We do not want the freezing rain and snow to freeze on the rinks overnight on Wednesday – that would take longer to fix on Thursday (and maybe Friday too).
