Rink Update – 2022-02-02

The temperature is above freezing today with mixed precipitation and scattered flurries in the forecast, so the rink is closed today. This is the end of one of the longest stretches of the rink being continuously open for skating – it was last closed on Jan. 9 at 1pm because the temperature was above freezing (it was opened again on Jan. 10).

Based on the current forecast the rink will be open tomorrow. Skating conditions may be rough as a result of the weather.

Rink Update – 2022-01-04

We flooded the rink this morning, we had supervised hours from 6-9pm, and we shoveled and flooded the ice this evening. It was a busy day at the rink!

The ice is in somewhat rough shape after warmer temperatures today.  The forecast calls for +1C from 1pm to 8pm tomorrow, so we’re closing the rink for the day tomorrow.  “Rink closed” signs are posted and caution tape is up now.

We should be able to open the rink again on Thursday based on the current forecast.

Rink Update – 2021-02-24

The rink is closed on Wednesday February 24th because the forecast is calling for above freezing temperatures.
Signage has been posted instructing people to stay off the ice surfaces, and caution tape has been put up.
If everyone stays off the ice on Wednesday and the weather is good overnight, we should be able to open the rink again on Thursday.

Rink Update – 2019-02-26

There was a lot of damage to both rink surfaces as a result of people walking and skating on the ice when it was soft and from skaters leaving piled snow on the ice surface. Please stay off the ice when the “Rink Closed” signs are out!

On the plus side, the ice and snow build up around the boards has largely melted away! Once we flood a couple of times, it will be better for hockey than before.

Repair work started last night and continues today. We are attempting to complete sufficient work in order to open tonight, but we are not quite there yet.

We need volunteers to supervise the following upcoming shifts:

  • 6pm-9pm Thursday February 28th
  • 6pm-9pm Friday March 1st
  • 3 of 3 shifts on Saturday March 2nd
    • 11am-2pm
    • 2pm-5pm
    • 5pm-8pm
  • 2 of 3 shifts on Sunday March 3rd
    • 1pm-3pm
    • 3pm-5pm

The fieldhouse cannot be opened for skaters to warm up unless we have a supervision volunteer.

Based on the current 14-day forecast, it looks like we might be able to stay open until Monday March 11th (and beyond) – but we need supervisors! Please sign up at http://signup.com/go/AYVqZth and/or notify Adam.
