What does the GPCA do

What the Alliance does:

  • Manages and maintains the rinks at Kingsmere Park (City of Ottawa Grant).
  • Promotes and fund raises for the renewal of our green space (Lorry Greenberg, Glabar and Kingsmere Parks.
  • Represents the community issues and concerns in areas of traffic and zoning issues with the City.
  • Sponsors Community events like the Glabar Garage Sale and Fools in the Park.
  • Hosts Community Meetings to discuss local issues like rezoning applications or All Candidate meetings for elections.
  • Represents the Community at Ward Council Meetings and Federation of Citizens Associations.
  • Sponsor City Wide events at the Community level (i.e. Clean up the Capital and Car Free Day).
  • Helps to promote community involvement via our interactive website and community events.

Purpose/Objectives of the GPCA

The alliance is recognized by the City of Ottawa as the official community contact for all city issues such as traffic, zoning, water and sewers as well as Police.

The purpose and objectives of the GPCA are:

  • To improve the quality of life for all residents in our community.
  • To promote and enhance community involvement, events and activities.
  • To keep the residents of the Glabar Park Community informed of all actions or proposed actions which could affect our community.
  • To communicate with government agencies on matters directly affecting our Community.

History of Glabar Park

A History of Glabar Park
The GPCA would like to solicit historical information on the community to add to our web site.
This could include pictures, newspaper articles, etc
Examples:

  • What year was Glabar Park developed?
  • How did a specific Street get its name?
  • What were the first house on a street and how much did they cost?
  • When were the 3 Parks constituted and how did they get their names?
  • A list of prominent residents?

Glabar Park History

955 Blythdale Rd.

  • The original owner was the Frisby family, of Frisby Tire.
  • The next owner was the Disipio family, owners of “the Prescott” in Little Italy.
  • Submitted by John Huntjens the yet to be famous 3rd owner.

The Mooney Family

  • The Mooney family lived in the area at one time – Sid Mooney.
  • This fact is noted by the plaque in the Lorrie Greenberg dog park.

Glabar Park is a west end Ottawa neighbourhood bounded by the Queensway on the South, Carling Avenue on the North, Maitland Avenue on the East and Woodroffe Avenue on the west.
