The National Capital Commission (NCC) is inviting residents to participate in an online public consultation on a universally accessible multi-use pathway that will be built at LeBreton Flats.

This pathway will connect the Capital Pathway along the Ottawa River to the Pimisi and Bayview O-Train stations at LeBreton Flats. These pathways are the first element to be implemented from the Mobility, and Parks and Public Realm strategies in the new LeBreton Flats Master Concept Plan, which was approved in 2020.

This online consultation gives residents an opportunity to

• learn about the pathway’s proposed design;
• provide feedback on the kind of user experience you think the pathway should facilitate; and
• share your ideas about activities and events you’d like to see along the historic aqueduct west of Pimisi Station.

The online questionnaire is available on the NCC’s website from now until February 12, 2021.

The office of Bay Ward City Councillor Theresa Kavanagh shared the following dates that might be of interest to Glabar Park residents:

• On Tuesday, February 2, at 6:30pm, the City of Ottawa will host a virtual information session on the zoning by-law amendment application filed for 963 Hare Avenue. Contact Councillor Kavanagh’s office to receive the Zoom meeting link and/or visit the City of Ottawa website for more information.

• On Tuesday, February 16 at 6:30pm, Councillor Kavanagh will host an information session to review the impacts of forthcoming road closures related to LRT Stage 2 construction, which include the 417 interchanges for Pinecrest, Holly Acres, and Moodie. The Ottawa Snowsuit Fund is reaching out to communities across the capital to participate in the Snow Angel Challenge. Families, schools, businesses, and community and sports groups are invited to register online to fundraise and create snow angels, Then, they can share their snow angel images and videos on social media – using the hashtag #SnowAngelChallenge and tagging The Snowsuit Fund to qualify for prizes.

“Ottawa winters are cold, yet year-round outdoor play contributes fundamentally to mental health, active and healthy lifestyles, as well as learning and development,” says Judy Thompson, who reached out to the  Alliance on behalf of The Fund. “The Snow Angel Challenge was conceived based on one of the most fun, universal and safe winter play activities – making angels in the snow.”

The Challenge runs February 1st through 28th, with proceeds going towards making sure every Ottawa child is dressed warmly to play outdoors during winter.

Kingsmere Rink is closed for skating while temperatures remain above freezing. Signage has been posted instructing people to stay off the ice surfaces.

The City of Ottawa had implemented rules with respect to social distancing at outdoor rinks, including Kingsmere Rink. The following info is a rink-specific excerpt from those rules as of Jan. 7 2021:

• Ottawa’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Vera Etches, has issued an order under the Health Protection and Promotion Act to restrict the number of people at skating rinks and sledding hills to 25 at one time.
• In addition to the Order, under Provincial Regulations no team sports are permitted and the City is directing that only skating take place on all rinks with no sticks, pucks, balls or other sports equipment permitted on the ice.
• Masks must be worn around all public outdoor rinks and while on the ice and not skating. Masks are not mandatory while skating but are highly recommended. Skaters who are not from the same household must keep two metres apart on and off the ice.
