The Glabar Park Community Alliance received the following email from the City of Ottawa. We encourage all Glabar Park residents to complete the surveys – make sure your voice is heard!
Dear Community Associations,
Please be advised that Maclaren Municipal Consulting has just published two policy options papers on ottawa.ca:
- Housing Conditions Policy Options – This paper examines various options for regulating rental housing.
- Short-Term Rental Policy Options – This paper examines options for regulating short-term rental services such as Airbnb and VRBO.
Residents are invited to review the policy options papers and complete two short surveys:
The deadline for completion of the surveys will be September 4, 2019.
Detailed written submissions are also being accepted and can be sent to Jerrod Riley at jerrod.riley@ottawa.ca.

Councilor Kavanagh has arranged for a small group of Glabar Park residents to take a tour of the student residences on Amaya with a representative from Smart Living on August 27th in the evening. This is a great opportunity to see the residences up close and to ask questions.
If you are interested in joining this tour, please email glabarparkca@gmail.com. I will coordinate with the first 5 people to respond. Please respond by Aug. 23 so I can provide details back to Councilor Kavanagh’s office.
FYI – the Smart Living representative has been asked about renting the units through AirBnB. He explained that they did put the units up on AirBnB, but this was only a transitional option for the period of time from construction to leasing the units. Then they will be signing leases of one year. Their tenants are not allowed to sublet without approval. Also, there will be an on-site student ambassador who will be responsible for keeping an eye on things.
